Enneagram and astrology research

In 2010 the current author of this blog began to investigate the possible relationships between the enneagram and astrology using statistics and probability calculation.

Relying on the opinions of major enneagram authors who typed famous people on the internet and in enneagram books he calculated the relative risks of being typed as a particular enneatype with sun in sun sign, moon in moon sign etc.

Using the calculated relative risks of this reference database he was able to do predictions on the enneatype of a person born on a certain day and time using astrological statistics.

He tested this method on his family, his enneagram coach and her family and members of the Platform Enneagram Professionals who were interested in it and it became clear that the hit rate was much higher than could be expected by chance.

The project was set up as a test of astrology, but it yielded a tool to predict enneatypes as well. But it relied heavily on the opinions of enneagram experts that were typing others.

For obvious reasons he would like to use the birth dates of the famous enneagram experts  that typed themselves for his investigation, but he never found a famous International Enneagram Association member that was publicly honest about his or her birthday.

He published the English version of his results on Enneagram scores of famous people based on astrological statistics and happily announced it at the R&H EIDB Forum under the heading of Enneagram and astrology.

He then asked EIDB users to help him to test and improve the method. And he also engaged in typing famous persons. This all was not meant as a show off but as test of the method that related enneagram types to astrological constellations using rather simple astrological statistics.

The method was also discussed on the R&H Forum: Ganglion's Astrological Statistics & EIDB Types.

One remark was:    Although I've not kept a running tally, my rough impression is that ganglion's system yields a very high proportion of 3, 6, and 9 typings.

And this was astrologically seen indeed the case. As relatively young types 3 and counterphobic 6 seemed to dominate the fora that were born in the recent 3-6-9 attachment type gulf that lasted till early 1995. Since then type 1 and 4 frustration types seem to be become more likely.

One of the most important findings of his astrological calculations was that different clusters of enneatypes tend to be born like different generations over the years.

The positions of the outer planets like Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto had the most impact on the likeliness of being typed by others with a particular enneatype.

For this reason birth year is much more predictive for one's enneatype than is birth date. And parents and children will more often differ from each other than siblings will do in respect of enneatypes.
